How does the design process work?

Our design process usually starts with a previously engineered basic package of Vardo, Yurt or Tiny house. From there, the design process follows three basic steps. The first step is to have the customer step through how they want to use, experience and enjoy the living space.  We use that information to develop a pattern language for the space. That is, specific uses and functions that will create a living model. The second step involves collecting the right materials: new or used, that can make a space unique, special, and tie it to the past when possible.  The third, and final step goes on until the structure is complete, which is design tuning iterations.  As the structure comes together ideas can pop up that could make it more special, more perfect for use. By working with the customers on these ideas, and incorporating the ones that are feasible, we continue to make a space better and better.

What is a Vardo?

Historically, a Vardo is a horse-drawn wagon used by the Romani for travelling homes (they are sometimes called Gypsies, however, that term has some unpleasant overtones, and we don't use it). Our Vardos are structures on modern trailers with a "Vardo-Like" design both inside and out. They can be considered tiny homes, however, usually don't have integral bathrooms.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vardo_(Romani_wagon)

What is a Yurt?

A yurt is a round portable wood framework covered in canvas or skins that was traditionally used in the steppes of Mongolia.  It is characterized by an external perimeter latticework of wood and rafters that rest on the latticework and intersect in a center ring (or wheel) that is held in place by compression. There is a cable or cloth wrapped around the outside of the frame to keep the rafters from spreading out (we use a modern steel cable). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurt

What is a Tiny House?

A tiny house has no standard definition, however, White Oak Elemental defines it as a complete 4-season home with insulation, bathrooms and kitchen that has less than 500 square feet of living space.  It may or may not be on wheels.

What’s your deposit return policy?

Our products are custom made in almost every case. If you request a returned deposit, we will always comply if there has not already been material purchases or custom work completed that cannot be reused in a current project. For instance, we often request small deposits for locking in our schedule: in most cases, these will be returned immediately.
